Compassionate End-of-Life Care in the Comfort of Your Home

Saying goodbye to a family pet is one of the most difficult decisions you will face. At Rover Veterinary Care, we believe that your pet's final moments should be peaceful, private, and filled with love. Dr. Katie Matzke provides compassionate in-home euthanasia services throughout Hobe Sound, allowing your pet to pass with dignity in their favorite spot, whether that's a sunbeam in the living room or a quiet corner of the patio.

Residents of Hobe Sound value the quiet, nature-focused lifestyle that makes this community so special. We extend that same sense of tranquility to our veterinary care. By choosing an in-home appointment, you avoid the stress of a clinic visit and ensure your pet's last memory is of the home and family they love.

Why Families Choose In-Home Pet Euthanasia

Making the choice to say goodbye at home offers several distinct benefits for both you and your pet.

A Peaceful Environment

Veterinary clinics can be stressful, filled with unfamiliar smells, loud noises, and slippery metal tables. At home, your pet remains relaxed in their own bed, surrounded by familiar scents and sounds.

The Comfort of Family

When you choose in-home care, you have the freedom to grieve privately without the pressure of a waiting room. The entire family can be present to say goodbye, including children and other household pets, which often helps them understand the loss.

No Stressful Travel

For older or sick pets, simply getting into a car can be painful and anxiety-inducing. We come to you, eliminating the need for transport and ensuring your pet's final moments are spent resting comfortably, not traveling.

What to Expect During an In-Home Euthanasia Appointment

Dr. Matzke's process is unhurried and gentle, typically lasting between 30 to 60 minutes. We guide you through every step so you know exactly what to expect.

When Dr. Matzke arrives, she will greet you and your pet. This is a time to ask questions and discuss your pet's condition. There is no rush; we proceed only when you are ready.

To ensure your pet feels no pain or anxiety, Dr. Matzke administers a gentle sedative. Within 5 to 15 minutes, your pet will drift into a deep, heavy sleep. They will still be breathing, but they will be completely relaxed and unaware of any discomfort.

Once you and your pet are ready, the final medication is given. It is painless and quick, allowing your pet to pass peacefully within moments.

After your pet has passed, Dr. Matzke will respectfully transport them for cremation if you have chosen that option. You do not need to worry about making separate arrangements.

Cremation Options

We offer dignified aftercare options to suit your family's needs.

Private Cremation

Your pet is cremated individually. Their ashes are carefully gathered and returned to you in a high-quality urn. This is a popular choice for families who wish to keep their pet's remains at home.

Communal Cremation

Your pet is cremated respectfully with other pets. Ashes are not returned to you but are scattered at sea or in a memorial garden. This is a dignified and more affordable option for families who do not wish to keep the ashes.
