How far in advance do I need to book my appointment?

Our availability varies by day and week, but we typically have appointments available 7 days a week and can often provide care within 12–24 hours of a request. Appointments can be scheduled up to two weeks in advance. Click here to check our current availability.

How will I know when it is time for euthanasia?

We have found the pet quality of life resources from the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care useful in helping families determine the right time.

What happens at the euthanasia appointment?

After introductions and meeting your pet, we give the first injection subcutaneously (like a vaccine, with a tiny needle). This medication has pain control and sedation in it, so your pet will peacefully fall asleep over about 5-10 minutes. Once your pet is care-free, we will give the second injection, which is an overdose of a sedative, intravenously. After your pet has passed, we create a pawprint for you out of modeling clay. This pawprint will air-dry on a flat surface in about 72 hours, and it can be painted/decorated once dry.

What happens with the ashes if I choose communal cremation?

If you choose communal cremation, your pet’s ashes are respectfully scattered at sea through our partnership with Oceans of Love. This program provides a dignified and meaningful final resting place, honoring the lives of beloved pets. You can learn more about the process here.

What is the difference between private cremation and individual cremation?

Both private and individual cremation allow you to receive your pet’s cremated remains as a personal keepsake. The difference lies in how the cremation is performed.

With private cremation, your pet is the only pet in the cremation chamber for the entire process. This option provides complete privacy and ensures that the cremated remains you receive are solely those of your pet.

With individual cremation, your pet is cremated at the same time as other pets, but is respectfully separated within the chamber using partitions. These partitions ensure that you receive only your pet’s cremated remains.

What urn will I get with individual or private cremation?

Included in the cost of an individual or private cremation, you may choose one complimentary memorial option. This includes your choice of one of our standard urns or a satin keepsake pouch.

If you prefer a different style, we also offer a wide selection of specialty urns and memorial items available for purchase. You may view the full memorial product catalog here.

After your appointment, the crematory will email you secure login details to an online portal where you can view and select your urn. Your family will have 72 hours to make your selection, allowing you time to choose what feels most meaningful. During this process, you may also choose to add additional memorial products if you wish.

Photos of our standard urn options are shown below, and larger images with detailed descriptions can be found on the linked page of our website.

How much does in-home pet euthanasia cost in Reno, NV?

In-home pet euthanasia in Reno, NV through Rover Veterinary Care starts at $400 for euthanasia only. Packages that include cremation range from $520 (communal) to $720 (private). Prices include veterinary travel within approximately 30 minutes of Reno City Hall. Extended travel fees may apply for Sparks, Carson City, Fernley, and Dayton.

Is in-home euthanasia more expensive than going to the vet clinic?

In-home euthanasia typically costs more than a clinic appointment because a licensed veterinarian travels to your home, bringing all necessary equipment. Rover Veterinary Care's packages start at $400, which includes travel fees, the procedure, and a clay pawprint keepsake. Many families find the comfort and privacy of in-home care worth the additional cost.

How do I prepare my home for pet euthanasia?

Choose a quiet, comfortable space where your pet feels safe. This could be their bed, a favorite couch, or anywhere they like to rest. You do not need to do anything special. We bring everything needed. Family members, including children, can be present if you wish. It helps to have your pet's favorite blanket nearby and to have any payment method ready beforehand.

Do pets feel pain during in-home euthanasia?

No. Our two-step process begins with a sedative injection that contains pain control medication. Your pet falls into a peaceful sleep over 5 to 10 minutes, completely unaware and free of discomfort. The final injection is administered after your pet is fully sedated and causes no pain.
