Compassionate In-Home Euthanasia for Sparks Families
Losing a pet is one of the most difficult moments a family faces. Rover Veterinary Care was built around the belief that your pet deserves to pass at home, not in a clinic. Our veterinarians serve Sparks and the surrounding Truckee Meadows area, bringing the same gentle, unhurried care that has earned us 150+ five-star reviews across Reno and northern Nevada.
Dr. Katie Matzke founded Rover Veterinary Care in 2020 after recognizing that most families did not have access to compassionate in-home end-of-life care. Since then, she and her team, Dr. Christopher Clarkston and Dr. Skylar Koll, have helped hundreds of families in Sparks, Reno, and surrounding communities say goodbye to their pets with dignity.
What Happens During an In-Home Euthanasia Appointment
Our process uses a gentle two-step approach designed to keep your pet calm and pain-free throughout.
Step 1: Arrival and introduction. Your veterinarian arrives at your home, meets your family, and spends a few minutes getting comfortable with your pet.
Step 2: First injection. Your pet receives a sedative injection, similar to a vaccine. This medication contains pain control and sedation. Over 5 to 10 minutes, your pet will fall into a peaceful, pain-free sleep.
Step 3: Final injection. Once your pet is fully relaxed and unaware, your veterinarian administers the final injection intravenously. Your pet passes quietly within seconds.
Step 4: Pawprint keepsake. We create a complimentary clay pawprint for your family to keep.
Step 5: Aftercare. If you've selected a cremation package, your pet is transported to West Coast Pet Memorial in Reno. Ashes are returned to you within a few days.
How to Know When It's Time for Euthanasia
This is the hardest question pet owners face. Some signs that your pet's quality of life may be declining include difficulty breathing, refusal to eat or drink for more than 24 hours, inability to stand or walk, uncontrolled pain that doesn't respond to medication, loss of bladder or bowel control with distress, and persistent vomiting or seizures.
We recommend using a quality of life scale as a guide. Tools like the Journeys Pet Quality of Life calculator can help you assess your pet's comfort objectively. We also offer free quality of life consultations. Call (775) 800-6463 to speak with our team.
