Rover Veterinary Care
Katie Matzke, DVM

Katie Matzke, DVM

Founder, Veterinarian

Dr. Katie Matzke was born and raised in Jupiter, Florida. She attended the University of Florida for both undergraduate and veterinary school, graduating from the UF College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. Katie and husband Josh with their two big dogs, Kahlua & Pazza, moved to Reno, Nevada upon Katie's graduation from veterinary school.

Katie found her niche working as a shelter veterinarian with Nevada Humane Society from 2013 to 2023. She loves the ability to give comfort and high-quality veterinary care to homeless pets. She has seen firsthand the need in the community for home euthanasia services, which led to the creation of Rover Veterinary Care in 2020.

In Reno, Katie and Josh expanded their family significantly with the addition of a few two-legged children - Emy, Thomas, and Patrick. Outside of work, Katie's favorite activity is running, frequently with her four and two-legged companions. Katie also loves reading and spending time at the river and the lake with her family.

Katie & family recently relocated (and expanded Rover) to her hometown of Jupiter, Florida. Katie continues her nonprofit work as a surgeon with a local nonprofit in addition to providing end-of-life care services through Rover for pets in Palm Beach & Martin counties.

Christopher C. Clarkston

Christopher C. Clarkston, DVM

Dr. Chris comes to Nevada by way of Northeast Kansas, where he was born and raised. He received his undergraduate and veterinary degrees from Kansas State University, located in Manhattan, Kansas. Upon graduation from "The Little Apple," Dr. Chris moved to Reno, Nevada to work as a shelter veterinarian with the Nevada Humane Society. His trek across the country was accompanied by his two fur kids, Gizmo and Lily.

As a veterinarian, Dr. Chris believes in providing care for animals in the greatest need. This includes the homeless pet population that comes through the animal shelter, as well as the pets of Northern Nevada in need of humane euthanasia.

In his free time, Dr. Chris performs with multiple orchestral groups on the French Horn and is trained on several other brass instruments and the piano. He is excited to continue exploring what Reno, Carson City, and the Lake Tahoe area have to offer."

Skylar Koll

Skylar Koll, DVM

Born and raised in the Northeast, Dr. Skye is proud to be a UCONN Husky who most recently became a Wildcat while studying veterinary medicine in Kansas. Initially going into veterinary medicine to focus solely on surgery, she changed paths halfway through school when she realized that she could make an impact in the lives of those who did not yet have their fur-ever homes.

After switching gears to shelter medicine, and upon graduating from Kansas State, she soon started interviewing across the country. The charm of Nevada, Lake Tahoe, the Sierras and the Humane Society soon bought her over. While in her new position, and during the quarantine period of COVID, she learned of the stresses and difficulties in people seeking veterinary appointments, especially for those looking for euthanasia services. Deciding when your furry friend crosses the Rainbow Bridge is often an intimate and challenging decision; but the decision can be made more comfortable and peaceful within a familiar home setting. Seeing the impact of the process for both pets and owners within the home, she decided to join Rover Vet Care.

In her free time, Dr. Skye can be found volunteering, hiking/exploring, snowboarding, baking, and playing with her fur-baby, Crowley.

Christina Hansen

Christina Hansen, DVM

Dr. Hansen knew she wanted to be a veterinarian from a very young age but took a detour on her path to becoming a veterinarian after college. After spending seven years teaching students and tourists about tropical ecology as a naturalist in Costa Rica she returned to the United States to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Dr. Hansen has a masters degree in anatomy and neurobiology and graduated from the Colorado State School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006.

She completed a small animal internship and then worked in general small animal private practice for 5 years in Colorado and California.

In 2013 she moved to Kanab, Utah to work at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. In 2020 Dr. Hansen relocated to Reno, NV where she worked at the SPCA of Northern Nevada for 3 years.

Dr. Hansen has a passion for delivering high-quality care to all animals whether in a shelter or a home. She feels strongly that animals deserve to pass over the rainbow bridge in the comfort of their homes surrounded by loving family.

She lives with Tigger and Tess, her 2 mix-breed dogs. In her spare time, she takes advantage of all the outdoor activities available in the Reno-Tahoe area, travels extensively, and is a volunteer surgeon with various non-profit spay and neuter programs nationally and internationally.

Amber Kinsaul

Amber Kinsaul

Client Service Coordinator

Amber is a passionate animal lover dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of animals and their owners. She was born in Reno, NV and raised in Fallon, NV, but eventually moved back to Reno. She grew up with many pets as a child and learned how strongly she adores animals. She would try to rescue every animal she would come across on the street and always try to bring home new pets as an adolescent. She always knew she wanted to work with animals.

Amber's journey began when she started volunteering at Nevada Humane Society in 2016 and eventually started volunteering in the clinic. She jumped on the chance when a clinic reception position became available. She found a profound love of providing compassionate care to homeless pets and owned pets alike. She honed her exceptional customer service skills over the years and created great rapports with the general public, the large foster parent population, and the parents of recently adopted pets. She received a few promotions during her time at NHS as a result of her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and compassion shown to the animals and people she would meet. Amber also found a special passion for helping people through the difficult time of having to send a beloved pet companion over the Rainbow Bridge so she decided to join the Rover Team in 2023.

Amber recently moved to Silver Springs, NV where she can enjoy the country life and in her free time, she enjoys spending it with her fiance backcountry camping, off-roading in the vast Nevada desert, going to hot springs and ghost towns, hiking, and spending time at the lake. She also enjoys spending time at home with her four cats who were all once her foster kittens.
